Why Didn't I Pass?
There are a number of reasons your vehicle may not
have qualified to pass emissions testing via RapidScreen. Some common
reasons are:
- You did not drive past a RapidScreen testing van
more than once within your ten-month window. (RapidScreen requires
two clean readings to pass.)
- Your vehicle did not register two readings clean
enough to qualify. (The acceptable emissions limits for RapidScreen
are stricter than those of a standard emissions test.)
- Your two clean readings occurred at the same testing
site, on the same day. (Only one reading per location, per day
will be accepted.)
- Your license plate was unreadable. (Common issues
that obscure our camera’s view include excessive dirt or
snow, trailer hitches, bike racks and sun glare.)
- Adverse weather interfered with the reading. (To
ensure your RapidScreen test is accurate, readings obtained during
rain, snow, high winds, or dusty conditions are discarded as invalid.)
- Your vehicle was decelerating as you drove past
the testing van. (To obtain a valid reading, vehicles must be
moderately accelerating or cruising as they pass the testing van.)
- Your vehicle: is of model year 1981 or earlier,
is powered by diesel or alternative fuels, is a government vehicle,
weighs more than 10,000 pounds, has an outstanding emissions failure.
(These types of vehicles are not eligible for the benefits of
RapidScreen.)
- You had a recent change of address that has
not been recorded with your county’s motor vehicle office.
