Avoid Wait Lines During Peak Summer Months
Area residents will need to use a little bit of strategy to avoid waiting in lines at Envirotest emissions stations this summer. Summer is always a high-volume period for emissions testing, and because of the way the two-year testing cycle was formulated more vehicles need emissions tests in odd-numbered years than in even-numbered years. Therefore, a two-year peak in traffic at the stations is expected this summer, through the month of September.
Motorists who want to avoid the prospect of a waiting line should avoid: Mondays, lunch hours, the first few and last few days of each month, and the day after any holiday. Best times to come are: early in the mornings, late in the afternoons, the middle two weeks of the month, and Fridays and Saturdays.
The busiest stations, best avoided at peak times, are the Arvada station, 5185 Marshall St., Arvada; the Sheridan station, 2802 W. Mansfield Ave., Sheridan; the Denver Southeast station off of So. Havana at 10190 E. Warren Ave., Aurora., and the County Line station at 8494 South Colorado Blvd., Littleton.
The least busy stations are: Parker, 10199 Park Glen Way, Parker; Castle Rock, 541 Topeka Way, Castle Rock; Broomfield, 11609 Teller St., Broomfield; Commerce City, 5000 E. 62nd Ave.; and Ken Caryl, 10727 Centennial Rd. in southern Jefferson County.
Motorhomes and oversized vehicles can be tested most easily at the stations that have outdoor lanes. Those stations are: Arvada; Sheridan; Parker; Denver Southeast; Golden, 15335 W. 44th Ave., Golden; and Stapleton, 12042 E. 30th Ave., Aurora.
Envirotest stations are open from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. The stations are closed Sundays and all state holidays. Independent testers of 1981 and older vehicles may be open on holidays; call your independent tester to make sure.
People needing an emissions test during the high-volume months of July, August and September can call the Air Care Colorado Hotline at 303-456-7090, or visit our website at www.aircarecolorado.com, for locations, maps and directions, and other program information.
