Hours to Change Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Air Care Colorado Emissions Test Centers
Hours at Envirotest-operated vehicle emissions testing centers will change on Tuesday, January 22, 2002. The new operating hours will be 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. The old hours were 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. The new hours reflect the fact that the stations have historically done very little business early in the morning or late in the evening. Stations will continue to be open on Saturday mornings to accommodate those customers for whom the new weekday hours would be a problem.
Because of the new hours, Envirotest Systems is expecting to be able to offer the public an improved level of customer service at the stations, through the reduction of employee turnover. “Like any other service business with extended hours, retention of good employees has been a tough problem. Particularly for employees who have small children, they want a job where they can be home in the mornings to see them off to school, and home at the dinner hour too,” says Derrick Pickeral, Envirotest System’s General Manager. “If we can retain our employees, we can reduce the typical ‘rookie’ mistakes. That translates to better service for our customers.”
The change in operating hours at the Air Care Colorado inspection stations is part of a recently-signed, new 4-year contract with the state. The new contract extends Envirotest Systems Corp.’s operation of the Denver area’s emissions inspection stations until December 31, 2005. It also will potentially bring the much-anticipated RapidScreen remote testing technology to the Denver area within the next two years.
The centers will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, for Martin Luther King Day. Customers needing emissions tests can minimize or avoid waiting in lines by coming before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m. on weekdays, or on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Avoid the first few days and last few days of the month, Mondays, and the day after any holiday. Customers can call the Air Care Colorado hotline, 303-456-7090, or visit www.aircarecolorado.com, for best times to test, locations, directions and other program information.
